When I am playing video games for some reason the keyboard will over heat and I can not get the keys to work. Since this only happens when playing video games. Could it be caused by a control of some sort?  Is there a way to fix this so I can keep playing my games?

Hello Joseph!

If you’re using a laptop it is normal to have warm parts in it. If overheat seems to be the problem please turn of your lap top and check if weird odor coming from your laptop. Like burnt wirings or even smoke coming out from it. Do not dismantle right away the laptop to check what’s wrong with it. Turn off your laptop and that’s the only time for you to dismantle the parts. If no indications of burned parts please bring your laptop to any nearest retail store and consult their technical experts. They will run some quality tests to check if this laptop is defective.

If this is a desktop, it is pretty unusual for a keyboard for desktops to become warm or overheated. In some cases ports where it is connected might cause this effect. Certain hardware might cause it or the environment. Same procedure must be done before deciding to check the inside of your desktop. Please there’s no quick fix with because safety is very much important than finding way to resolve your issues with your system.

I think you are using a laptop or a notebook because that doesn’t happen on a standard keyboard whether PS/2 or USB type. A standard PS/2 or USB keyboard doesn’t have any means to generate heat because the keyboard itself contains only the rubber matting and a small PCB for its circuit where the three LEDs (Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock) are connected.

In your case, it is not the keyboard that actually heats up. It is the laptop itself and there’s no remedy for that unless you clean or change the internal cooling fan. What you need right now is a cooling pad which is designed for laptops. This device helps your machine cool down by blowing air from the bottom of the laptop going up.
