My friends ask me to reformat his laptop, so I did. I installed a fresh Window XP home edition installed all the necessary driver and everything goes fine. He also asks me to install some software that he need for his work so I installed them all. I’ve successfully installed the following software, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, MySQL Query Browser, Administrator, Command Client and the ODBC connector.

All of them seems perfectly fine, no error, no issues encountered, and all are working great. It almost a happy ending until I came into installing java. I thought everything would work almost great, but I suddenly came to a horrifying problem 🙂 Happy ending ends here, there is an annoying error that keeps popping when I installed the java. I done everything to fix the problem, but I couldn’t. I try to restart my computer and reinstalled it again, but the same issue occurred.

Here is the error that keeps popping everything I tried to install.

Java Setup

Error 1606. Could not access network location%APPDATA%.

Hi. I have read your problem and it seems that the setup of java you are trying to install is may be corrupted. I am providing you the following URL where you could download the Java setup and try installing that one. And let me know if it works for you.  https://www.java.com/en/download/ Java installation.

One common error that occurs during JRE installation is the error 1606. This is one of the InstallShield error codes which means that an action failed during the installation. This usually happens when you are using the online installation procedure. To address this issue, we need to download the file again and uninstall the old version to be able to install the higher version.

To Uninstall the old Version of Java:

  1. Please go to Start menu
  2. Please select Settings and go to Control Panel
  3. Please double click on Add/ Remove program

Once you have removed the old version, please try to install the offline version of Java. Downloading online may take a while since the server is too busy or congested to serve the file.

  1. You can go to java.com
  2. Please click on the download button and start downloading the offline version of java
  3. Please install the downloaded file
