Internet Connection is Messed Up

I have a DSL connection. All rooms in my house have parallel phone connections. I connected a modem in one room and connected that modem to a computer using an ethernet cable. I want to connect another computer in a different room to the Internet too, so I connected an identical modem to the second computer and linked it to the phone outlet in that room. Now, the Internet is messed up. Have I done something wrong?

First of, you need to contact your Internet Service Provider and ask if you can install 2 modem in 1 Internet DSL connection line. If they say, yes then you should not encountered problem like this.

Internet connection will only work if you have a single modem connected at any given time not unless the you have 2 lines for Internet connection installed. So, both modem should work independently. But in this case, you'll need to confirm this by calling your ISP if it will function this way.

Since you have 2 computers and you want this computers to work at the same time then you need to have a switch or router for networking. This type of devices can provide Internet access to each and every computer attached to the network. However, you'll need to decide which modem you want to use but you only need one modem and install a router to it.

Then this router will provide wireless connection and can cater connection up to 4-8 computers depending on how many ports router can take.

Installed a router to the modem then set-up this router either DHCP or PPPOE. Call your ISP and ask what Internet protocol they used. Run a long ethernet cable to the 2nd computer or you can install a wireless card to it so it pick up wireless connection.
