Initializing MAPI session object failed error

Hi,

I upgraded from a previous version of Outlook to Outlook 2010.

Whenever I open an Outlook email I receive an error; if I click OK, the email opens but basically I know there is a problem with the underlying configuration.

Shortcut Error

Initializing MAPI session object failed.

I have tried to rename the underlying DLL on by going to D:WindowsSystem32, аnԁ renaming mapi32.dll, but then I don’t what to rename it. If you have any idea on how to correct this, please, help.

Thank you.

Such “Shortcut Error, Initializing MAPI session object failed” would mean that the call for MAPI Initialize function failed.

The number one solution you can really try is renaming the mapi32.dll file and running a tool to fix MAPI.

Go to C:WindowsSystem32 and rename mapi32.dll to mapi32.dll.ancient and run the fixmapi.exe tool under the same location C:WindowsSystem32. That process will generate a new mapi32.dll file for your system.

If that doesn’t work, you can also try changing your MAPI settings.

Restart your Outlook, then go to Tools>Options>Connection tab>Change. It will open the Internet Properties dialog box. Click Programs and click an email application other that Outlook Express under E-mail list then hit Apply and Ok. Then close and restart your Outlook Express. See if it helps.
