BizTalk Server is an essential component of the Microsoft application platform for automating and optimizing business processes. Create a flexible information system and service-oriented, by simply connecting applications, partners and collaborators within your business processes.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of technical features that BizTalk Server provides:

  • Adapters to simplify the integration of business applications (Siebel, SAP, JD Edwards, etc..), Databases (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2) and non-Microsoft technologies (Tibco, J2EE, etc.)..
  • An engine to model business rules (Business Rule Engine (BRE)) using a formalism pseudo-English. The rules engine in BizTalk Server runs forward chaining.
  • An application control business activity (Business Activity Monitoring (BAM)), which provides dashboards and graphs showing how business processes modeled run.
  • A unified dashboard for the administration and monitoring BizTalk applications.
  • Accelerators support for standards such as RosettaNet, SWIFT1, etc..
  • The ability to graphically model business processes in Visual Studio, mapping graphically different message formats (using transformation functions called functoids), and constructing pipelines that can decode, validate, and analyze incoming messages in the system via adapters receiving.
  • The Users can easily manage their business processes through the implementation of Orchestrations.
  • BizTalk integrates with other Microsoft products such as Office, SharePoint and InfoPath. These products allow human interaction with process through a workflow.
  • Extensive support for Web Services (consumption and exposure)
  • A support for RFID technology (available from BizTalk 2006 R2).
