I tried playing Fallout 76 after downloading and installing it several days ago but after the game launches, several minutes later the game froze and crashed then displayed the message “Fallout 76 has stopped working”. This is a newly installed game and I am still learning the game. Any help is appreciated.

If you tried playing “Fallout 76” but you encountered this error, first thing to check is your system’s compatibility. Check that your computer meets the requirements. Fallout 76 supports 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.

It requires 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5-6600k or equivalent AMD Ryzen 3 1300X or faster processor, 8 GB RAM, video card with 2 GB video RAM (NVIDIA GTX 780 with 3 GB video RAM or AMD Radeon R9 285 with 2 GB video RAM), and 60 GB free space. Fallout 76 supports 64-bit-only systems and will not run on x86 platforms.

Also, make sure you have an updated video card driver. For NVIDIA video cards, go to NVIDIA Driver Downloads. For AMD graphics adapters, go to AMD Graphics Drivers and Software. If you verify your computer meets the requirements, try disabling Game DVR or change the setting.

Game DVR allows you to record and share your play and it has two (2) areas that can affect gaming performance: background recording and video quality. Background recording is turned off by default. To check, press the Windows key + G to open the game bar then select “Game bar settings”. Uncheck “Use Record that”. For other options, go to How can I make PC games work better?

If this doesn’t work, make sure you play the game with an admin account. Try also running the game as admin. Right-click Fallout 76 then select “Run as administrator”. If this doesn’t work, try following the instructions on how to use the Scan and Repair tool to check your installed game for missing or corrupt files.
