Please help. My Avast anti virus detected a VBS/Ramnit.A. file infector virus. It contaminated almost all my files in my PC. I need a VBS tool step by step removal instruction without damaging the files. Can someone help? My desktop is on Windows XP 64 bit. Thanks.

I’m sorry to say this, but the damage caused by file infectors such as Ramnit cannot be reversed. And since it has contaminated most of the PC’s contents, you have no choice but to reformat and start anew.
You'll need:

An operating system installer CD

Driver installers
-
An installer of the latest version of your anti-virus software

A backup storage device, whether it be a flash drive or a HDD
Here are the steps you can take:

Make a backup of the files that you deem important. Don’t include .exe or .htm/.html files, since they are most likely infected.

Reformat the hard drive.

Reinstall the Operating System.

Reinstall the needed drivers.
-
Install anti-virus software.
-
Connect your backup storage, and perform a virus scan on it.
