I need help in fixing this error: Error 1706. Error 1706 comes out when I use Windows Installer and Office 2003. My OS is Windows XP. I am puzzled by this problem and don’t know how to fix it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The normal cause of this error is generally about missing files. If ever you tried installing something on your computer then error 1706 suddenly pops up, its cause was missing file or files.
If you are installing from a CD or a DVD disc and this error appeared, check the ribbon cable of the optical drive if its connection to the optical drive’s connector is secured. Check also the supply connector of the optical drive if it is secured on the port.
If you are installing from a network drive, check your connection again. It is possible that the location of the installer is no longer available to you. If you are going to install from a network drive, the best thing to do is to copy the installer to your local drive and do the installation there. This way you are sure that all of the files needed are all available.
I reinstalled Windows Installer and Office 2003 just as what you suggested and then restarted my computer. The error 1706 did not appear again. I was able to complete the installation. I am really grateful for your answers. Luckily, I have come across this site.Â
