Hello, I have bought HP ENVY 5530 e all-in-one printer a few days ago. After installing the product it was working fine. But when I restarted my PC then wanted to use the printer from my smartphone, the the printer just didn't responded properly. A pop-up comes forward says, ''Unknown device''. Anyone has any idea?

The HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One printer supports mobile printing but you need to connect it to an active Wi-Fi network. It supports mobile printing via Apple AirPrint, HP ePrint, and including other solutions. So, for you to be able to print using your Smartphone, you need to connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.

If your Smartphone responds with an “unknown device” error when trying to print, maybe the printer is not connected to the Wi-Fi. If you don’t have a wireless router at home, you can use the printer’s Wireless Direct function which allows Wi-Fi devices to connect directly to the printer using Wi-Fi.

This lets you print directly from your Smartphone by just using Wi-Fi. To connect to your printer via Wi-Fi, in your printer’s Home screen, touch or tap the Wireless Direct icon. If it shows that Wireless Direct is Off, touch Settings, Wireless Direct, and then touch either “On [No Security]” or “On [With Security]”.

Remember, when you turn on the security, users who don’t know the password will not be able to use the printer. But if you turn off the security, anyone within the Wi-Fi range of the printer that has a Wi-Fi device will be able to print. If you turn on the security, from the Home screen, go to Wireless Direct and then touch Display Name to show the wireless direct name.

After that, touch Display Password to get the printer to show the wireless direct password. To begin the printing on your Smartphone, turn on the Wi-Fi connection of your handset and then search and connect to the wireless direct name, for example, HP-Print-**-ENVY-5530, where “**” are the unique characters to identify your printer.

If the security is turned on, enter the wireless direct password when you are prompted.
