Hello,

How would you explain LDAP and SYSVOL folder? Would it be possible to link Active Directory to other third party Directory Services? Also, I would like to know where the AD database is and what would be the folders related to it.

Thank you.

Hi Grace,

LDAP’s full form is Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. This is an Internet protocol that helps to look up for information of email and other programs.
SYSVOL folder stores all the information about policies and scripts of the server. From this folder, the policies and scripts are replicated to the other Domain controllers.

You will be able to connect your Active Directory to other third party directory services. You may use Microsoft Identity Integration server (MIIS) to connect the Active Directory to other third party directory servers like Domino, SAP etc. You can also use DIRXML, LDAP and eDirectory for this purpose.

Hope this information is useful for you.
