I have found this site for the first time and amazed by the collection of solution of this site. I am here to solve a little problem on my DELL Inspiron laptop. I am running Windows 7 for about 3 months and windows defender is irritating me too much. Everyday it shows up and reminds me to run windows defender.

Previously I was running XP operating system but I am getting familiar very slowly with different features of Windows 7. I want to uninstall this feature. But the problem is it doesn’t appear in Programs and Features under Control Panel menu. It looks like an antivirus. I am already using a registered antivirus; do I need to run windows defender too?

I have read the issue that you have with the windows defender on the computer.  As to what I know, windows defender cannot be uninstalled on the computer, so what we can do is just disable it so it won’t open up on the computer again.

I have here some solution that might help you resolve the problem:

  1. Click Start
  2. Right above the start button you’ll see a white bar that has Search Programs and Files, on this bar type:  services.msc hit enter. Click continue buttonif a pop up window appear like a UAC message.
  3. Scroll down the services list to you see Windows Defender name. Right-click on the Windows Defender name and select Properties.
  4. Another screen will load up General tab, set the startup type to “Disabled” and click theApply button to save the changes.

There is also another way to disable it:

  1. Click Start
  2. Right above the start button you’ll see a white bar that has Search Programs and Files, on this bar type:  Windows Defender hit enter.
  3. Once the program opens, go to Tools > Administrator.
  4. Deselect the option named “Use this program”
  5. click Apply.

Hi,

I have here some information about the windows defender and the use of it that might also be of help to you. Windows Defender is the first line of defense against spyware and other unwanted software of the computer. It's easier to use in windows 7 because it has simpler notifications, more scanning options, and less impact on your computer's performance. It also has a new feature called "Clean System" that provides one-click purging of all suspicious software, and it is also part of the Action Center which is the streamlined place for keeping your PC running smoothly.

There are 2 features of the windows defender namely real-time protection and scanning options. Real-time protection alerts you when spyware attempts to install itself or run on your computer and it also alerts you when programs attempt to change important Windows settings on the computer. While the scanning options helps you to scan for spyware that might be installed on your computer, to schedule scans on a regular basis, and to automatically remove anything that's detected during a scan on the computer. If you will be using the windows defender it’s very important to have up-to-date definitions on the computer. Definitions are files that act like an ever-growing encyclopedia of potential software threats.

Windows Defender uses definitions to alert you to potential risks if it determines that software detected is spyware or other potentially unwanted software. Windows Update to automatically install new definitions as they're released and that will help you update the definitions on the computer. You can also set Windows Defender to check online for updated definitions before scanning the computer.

Hopefully this gave you some information about the windows defender and why it keeps popping up on the computer every time the virus protection is not working on the computer.
