Setup of windows 2003 active directory is a pretty straightforward process. Just follow the steps below –

1 – Press Window + R to open the run dialog box.

2 – Type dcpromo and press enter key on your keyboard. The following dialog box should appear.

3 – Click Next. The following screen appears.

4 – Click next after reading the compatibility issue. The following dialog box appears.

5 – Select the first radio button, and click “Next.”

6 – Choose the first option and click “Next.”

7 – Type your DNS name of the new domain as required.

8 – Enter the NetBIOS name as required.

9 – In the next screen, select the location to store your database and the log files.

10 – In the next window, you need to select a file location where you will store your SYSVOL files (Shared System Volume).

11 – You may get the following error when you click next after selecting the location for SYSVOL files. If you don’t get this error, follow the next steps.

12 – Select option two and click “Next.” The following screen appears.

13 – Here you need to select permission for the users and groups. Select option two and click “Next.” The following dialog box appears.

14 – Give suitable passwords and click “Next.”

15 – You will get a summary of all the settings that you have selected. Click “Next.”

16 – The Active Directory installation should begin. It will take a few minutes to complete.
