DNS, i.e. Domain Name System, is used for name resolution; it expresses the hostname to IP address and IP address to hostname. The secondary is just a showcase of primary server used for fault tolerance and cannot allow to create or delete records. Let’s start the steps to Configure a secondary DNS server.

  • On CUI configuration, Run PowerShell with Admin.
  1. On Name-Server setting on the DNS master host first Add DNS Secondary Host.
  2. On Secondary Host too Install DNS Server feature. Configure Secondary Zone On DNS Secondary Host.
  • On GUI configuration.
  1. Run Server Manager > select Tools – DNS > Click on the Zone name and select properties On DNS Master Host.
  2. Tap on the Zone Transfer tab, then you can watch the setting. Tap on the Name Servers tab.
  1. Tap on the Add button.
  2. Feed the Hostname and IP address of the secondary server. Click OK.
  1. The name Server is now added. Open DNS Secondary Host.
  2. Run Server Manager and tap on Tools > DNS, add the zone you want by right-clicking on it. And tap on New Zone.
  1. Tap on the Next button. Check the Secondary Zone box and move to Next.
  2. Input the name of the zone to add as Secondary duplicate and tap Next. Feed DNS Master host’s IP address and tap Next. Click Finish.
  1. Zone files will transfer on Secondary Host from now.
