Hi everyone,

I just need a help here. I want to secure my folder on our Windows Server 2003 to make sure that only I can access and save files to that folder, because it has confidential documents, and also I want to disable deleting files on that folder even with my access.

How can I do this?

Hi Melissa Alfara,

There are quite a number of people that have the same problem as you. Unfortunately Windows does not have a built in function or tool that password protects certain folders from those who wish to access its contents. Windows does however let you place restrictions on which account can access the folder and not. The problem with this is that if someone is able to access your account illegally, they will be able to check the contents of that folder with your account.

The solution to this would be to download a third party software such as Folder Guard to protect your folder's content from other people.

It's not a problem in Windows 2003. Promote your server 2003 computer as a domain controller; then create a user account for each user. Implement NFTS file and folder permissions. Now no one will able to view or edit or delete files and folders without your permission.

You can get an idea as to how to setup domain controller by watching following video.

Thanks.

Hi,

One way is to use a password in your user account. In this way no one can access your computer without your permission. But this is not a best option. You may create more than one user account but result is same. You can protect with this but this is not so much squired.

Most squired way for protecting files is using other software. I recommend using “Hide folder XP”. This is stronger and most squired than others. You just need to install it and register. Then give password and restart your computer. It will be look like this:

In here find add option and add any file or folder or drive you like. Then just chose your security level. It will save all your data in Windows Server 2003.

Hello,

It is very simple go to the specific folder which you want to secure.

Right click and go to the properties.

Go to the security tab.

Delete all users which you do not want to access the folder.

Then click to apply.

Exit.
