Guys, how can I reset my router by pressing the reset button at the back?

Last time I did this, I broke my router and ended up buying a new router.  Please help me.

  1. Connect your computer directly to router and Open the browser;
  2. Type, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 in the address bar,  to open the GUI of the router;
  3. If asking for a username and password use, "admin" and "password" for the information needed.
  4. Choose the option for advanced setting;

This is where, you will see the option to restore the router to its default settings.

Hello Sam Wood.

What router are we talking about here?  It would help if you posted what your router make and model is since not all routers have the same method of hardware reset.  For now, I am assuming that your router has one of those tiny holes where you need to insert a sharp object in order to reset.

To reset your router, get something sharp such as a ball point pen or a precision screwdriver or better yet, a toothpick and insert it into the hole.  Lightly press on the button inside.  You may have to push it in and out a little to feel whether the button is being pressed or not.  for most routers that I've worked with, the procedure is this:

  1. Turn off the power to your router via it's on/off switch
  2. Locate the tiny hole with the RESET marking and insert a sharp object to press it.
  3. With still pressing down on the RESET button, turn on the router.
  4. Wait for 20-30 seconds then let go of the reset button.
  5. Wait for your router to power up then check the settings through the web interface.
