I have bought a microphone just yesterday but I don't think that it is working properly. My sound is heard strange when I play the recorded voice on my PC. What might have caused this problem? Is this a problem with he sound card or anything else? How can I fix this problem?

If you purchased a new microphone for use on your computer but when you recorded your own voice it sounded weird during playback, try playing a media file on your computer to see if the audio will also sound strange. If the problem is with your soundcard, a music file or a video will also sound strange when played.

If this happens, try reinstalling your soundcard. Right-click My Computer then select Properties. Select Hardware tab then click Device Manager. Expand “Sound, video and game controllers”, right-click your soundcard [for example SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio] then select Uninstall. Once removed, close the window then restart the computer. Install the soundcard back then test the microphone again.

If you are using a Realtek soundcard, visit Realtek Audio Drivers. If you are using a Creative soundcard, visit Creative Worldwide Support then identify your soundcard from the list to download the latest driver. If you are using an ASUS soundcard, visit ASUS Drivers and Downloads. In case the sound is not fixed, try configuring your soundcard again.

Click Start, Control Panel, “Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices”, and then click “Sounds and Audio Devices”. Change the voice settings and you should fix the problem. You should also test your microphone using the “Test hardware” tool located in the Voice tab.
