How to play Video in Ubuntu?

Hey Guys,

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 from 9.10. I have all the codecs I need for that version. But I have no codecs for V11.04. I need it very much. I can't play any of my videos. It says, I have to install some codecs. So, it will be a great pleasure for me, if anyone helps me by giving the downloadable link of the codecs.

Thank you.

How to play Video in Ubuntu?

Hello,

If you are looking for installing codes, for Ubuntu then you can do it automatically. But it will take some time and you can’t reuse it  again, after you setup your PC. So, the best solution is to download a codec pack, which contains all the codes like K-lite for Windows. But it is too bad that they don’t release any codec pack for Linux users like us.

So, you have to download a combined codec pack, made by one of the users like us. It is called Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras Offline Installer. It contains all the codec, that is needed to play all types of video. You can download it.

After you have downloaded it, extract in the desktop. Then open the Terminal and type

$ cd ~/Desktop/ubuntu-restricted-extras
$ sudo sh Install.sh

This will install Ubuntu restricted in your PC. Now you can play almost any video.
