How to partition an existing drive

Hi guys,

Can you help me with my problem? Currently I have my 500 GB hard disk partitioned to Drive C where the OS resides and Drive D for file storage.

Is it possible to partition my Drive D again into Drive D and E with 50% capacity each. Will it affect my existing files or should I back-up it first to an external drive?

For your suggestion please.

Thanks,

Owen

Hello Mr. Owen,

yes it must affect  those files which are stored in the D drive but your C drive remains safe. For this you have to boot your computer again with any Windows operating disk and then follow these steps ; then you will be able to create a new E drive.

  1. Put a windows operating disk in to your drive ;
  2. Restart your computer;
  3. Boot it from CD-ROM;
  4. Install windows in a new way;
  5. There you found an option of format your drive and also in a lower part of screen you found that press c to create a new partition and d for delete partition;
  6. First you delete the D drive;
  7. Then again create a new drive named D;
  8. Assign 50% space to that d drive;
  9. Then again create a new drive named as E;
  10. Assign remaining 50% to that drive;
  11. And then restart your computer again;

These steps surely help you to create a new partition and also help you in future for the creation of new drives.

CHEERS.

Hi Owen,

Yes it is possible to create a partition on you drive D again. Making it D and an E drive with your capacity choice for E. I recommend you to back-up all files first to an external drive.

This are the steps on making a partition.

1. Right-Click on My Computer and select Manage.

2. From here select on Disk Management.

3. From the drive you selected which is D. Before you create a partition be sure to free up some space. Right click on D and select on Shrink Volume. This will not harm any of your data.

4. After shrinking desired space. Right-click on D and select New simple partition.

5. On the next window choose the desired size of partition and click next.

6. Next it will prompt you to assign a letter for the drive to be called, "E" will be recommended for you. Once decided click next.

7. Format your partition as NTSF and tick on "Perform a quick format". Click next.

8. After the format, click on Finish.

Reboot your PC and you're done. Good Job!
