You are trying to edit host without permission so it is showing error message like this.Host file on windows is securely protected, so it's not possible to edit without changing permission.

First right click on host file then go to advanced setting and change the security setting to your PC account from manufacture.

After changing setting close the file and now try to edit it, it will not show any problem.

How to modify the Host File In Windows 7 Or Vista?

Hello,

I encountered this very problem on Vista myself. After adding entries to it, I kept trying to save the host file but the system would give me a permission related error. So, what I did was, I copied the host file from its original location C:WindowsSystem32driversetc to Desktop, made all the changes to the copy on Desktop, deleted the original file, and finally dragged the copy from Desktop to the original location.

From that point onward, the system would not complain if a change was made to C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts

Hope it helps.

Best Regards,
