How to make my DVD ROM work again

Hi,

I have a Sony DVD/RW drive installed on my computer and it works perfectly. However, it suddenly disappeared from the list of drives in the ‘My Computer’ list. It is correctly installed and present in the BIOS. When I try to access it using the Windows Device Manager, I receive an error stating “Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information is incomplete or damaged (Code 19).” What can I do to make my DVD ROM work again?

Hello Serah,

The problem can be caused by both hardware and software problems and therefore you will have to troubleshoot them both. For the hardware problems, ensure that the DVD drive is well connected to the motherboard, its cable is not loosely attached or disconnected. If you are using and IDE hard drive, check to ensure that you have not mixed up the jumpers for connecting the DVD drive with those of the hard drive.

For the software problems, try uninstalling the DVD drivers in the device manager and then install them again and see if it helps solve the problem.
