hi

I have formatted my Windows XP computer hard-disc and would like to re-install Windows XP on my computer. But, all I have is a Windows XP upgrade CD with SP1. Is it possible to install Windows XP using the upgrade CD? If so, how can this be done?

I am afraid to tell you that you can’t install Windows XP from a Windows Upgrade CD. This is clearly written in Microsoft windows documentation that you need the original Windows in order to use the upgrade CD.

The reason behind this is that the upgrade CD does not have all the i386 files that are core files needed to install the OS.

The least you can do is to take a USB and make it bootable and then install the windows using that USB and then use the upgrade CD.

To make a Windows bootable USB, download Win2Flash and it will solve the issue for you.
