Hi,

I have a pen drive of my friend. He asked me to copy all the files inside his pen drive. When I open it, I see a background image in the pen drive. It was like a desktop having a wall paper. I was thinking to put a picture in my pen drive also but I cannot find anything on the web that works. Is it also possible to change the text color of files in pen drive?

Thanks.

You can do that on your own by creating a desktop.ini file in your pen drive. As far as I know it only works for Windows XP. I supposed you are using Windows XP. I will provide you the codes on how to do it. I’ll give an overview on what is desktop.ini. In Windows XP it is responsible for customizing the folders, whenever you change the looks of your folders the settings will be saved inside desktop.ini. So if you remove this file then you’ll just have to arrange it again on the way you wanted.

To make a desktop.ini file follow the steps below:

  1. Open a notepad. Access Start menu>All Programs>Accessories>Notepad
  2. Paste the follow codes:
  • [{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]
  • iconarea_image="image.jpg"
  • iconarea_text="0x0FFFF00FF"
  1. Change the image.jpg to the name of your desired image. Include the file extension. If it is a Windows Bitmap then Image.bmp or .png or .gif
  2. On iconarea_text, this is the color of your text in your pen drive. Refer to html colors for more text colors. (Some colors used in html are not working so you have to try another color code) Do not remove the “0x”
  3. Save your file as desktop.ini you have to change the .txt file extension to .ini otherwise it will not work. Then put it inside the pen drive including the image. Press F5 to refresh.
