You can try below method:

Like in Microsoft Windows, it is true you cannot boot using a disk image but you can use that disk image to restore a file, folder or the entire volume if you want. To do this you can use CCC or Carbon Copy Cloner. You can use it to backup your entire hard drive especially the system drive to create a bootable backup.

To restore the volume, open Carbon Copy Cloner then select “Restore from disk image” in Source menu. Next, locate the backup disk image. After this the program will automatically mount the disk image. After it was mounted, select a volume from the Destination menu. Though you can select the startup disk as its destination, Carbon Copy Cloner will not allow you to restore system files on the currently-running operating system.

Choose “Preserve newer files, don't delete anything” in the pre-configured settings menu. Unselect all items on the list that you don’t want to restore. Finally, click Clone button. To download, visit Download Carbon Copy Cloner. This program is designed only for Mac OS X and will not run on Microsoft Windows.
