How do I remove unwanted programs from the openwith list.

I added Adobe Reader accidentally, to open an .xls file. Now the file doesn’t open up, when I double click.

I tried to set the default, open with the program, but its not working.

How do I undo the "open with” list as it was before?

Is there any way to delete it?

I am running Windows 7.

You can change the default association by the “tic” at the lower left corner. You can't miss it.

You can change the file association by typing “file associate” in the start menu search box and set the default association from “change the file type associated with file extension”.

That is not working. I have Microsoft excel, still set as default program. I need to remove the unwanted program from the list, I don’t want to add more.

You can remove an already enlisted program by editing registry. The registry you may be looking for is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerFileExts.xlsOpenWithList

Be careful when editing a registry. And always back up your registry before editing.
