Hello Monirul,

I have read your concern regarding bad sectors causing slow computer and you are asking on how to detect it for you to be able to fix problem. Is it right? If it is, then just follow these easy steps on how to do it on your computer.

Disk Check varies on what operating system you are using because settings were different form each other. I have here the most common operating systems used nowadays. You can select any of these where your OS apply.

For Windows 98/ME:

  • Go to “START”> “PROGRAMS” > “ACCESSORIES” > “SYSTEM TOOLS” select “SCANDISK”.
  • Select the Thorough option and click “AUTOMATICALLY FIX ERRORS” then click “START”.

For Windows XP/2000:

  • Open “MY COMPUTER”.
  • Select the erroneous drive and Right click then select Properties.
  • Open the “TOOL” tab go to “ERROR CHECKING” select “CHECK NOW”.
  • Select the option to Automatic Fix File System Errors and Scan For And Attempt Recovery For Bad Sectors.
  • Select check box of both modes of scanning: (Automatically fix file system errors; Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors).
  • Click START and wait until finished.

I hope I am in the right track of understanding your concern and give you a hand to fix the problem. I hope this information is of good help.

Regards,

In order to detect the bad sectors and remove it you need to go to My Computer and click on your Hard Disk Drive. Select properties, and in the General Tab run Disk Clean Up. See the tools tab and then run ""Check Now"" and run Defragment now.

You can also get help by the following link. It has defragmentation and drive cleaner tools that you can use
