With Outlook 2003 and Windows 7 Pro, when I hit the send/receive button, I obtain Internet Security Warning that states "The server you are linked to is utilizing a security certificate that could not be validated. The certificate's CN name does not harmonize the number the passed value. Do you wish to proceed using this server?”  I chose yes and the emails show. Please provide advice on how to set up/configure the system to avoid such error again?

How to configure Outlook 2003 and Windows 7 Pro to avoid error

Hello Emma Cabaneros,

To avoid another encounter with that kind of an error, you should ensure that the email client you are using which is outlook in your case is using IMAP1 for access as opposed to POP2. And another thing that you should also put into consideration is that you should have entered the 'imap.gmail.com' and not 'pop.gmail.com' for the incoming server option now that you will need to be using IMAP.

The reason why you need to use IMAP is because it will allow you to download the messages from your Gmail account and enable you to access them with your ms outlook 2003, and its advantage over POP is that it offers two way communication while POP offers only one way communication hence POP will not allow you to sync actions you take in the mail program to Gmail.
