You can change your status on your Windows Messenger by clicking the arrow next to your display name. After clicking the arrow, it will show a dropdown list of status options you can select from such as “Busy”, “Away”, “Online”, “Be Right Back”, “In a Call” and others. Just select the status that you would like to use by clicking on it. If you click again on the arrow next to your name you can scroll down and click on “Personal Settings” and from there you can select to have your status displayed as “Away” if you are going to be idle for a certain amount of time or you can also select that you are “Busy” and it will block alerts while you are running other programs.

If this still doesn’t solve your problem try changing your status on your mobile devices as well.

If you want to change your display name in Windows Live Messenger, that would depend on the version you are using. If you are using an old version like the MSN Messenger or the Windows Messenger, I’m not sure if there’s an option to change your display name. But if you are using Windows Live Messenger 2011, changing your display name would be easy.

First, download Windows Live Messenger 2011. It supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.x. Another way to install Windows Live Messenger 2011 is to install Windows Essentials 2011 because it is part of the Windows Essentials suite. Once installed, start Windows Live Messenger 2011 then log in to your account. Next, click “File” then select “Edit your name”.

Enter your new display name then click “Save”. And that’s it.
