I am also using just one modem and I have internet on my laptop and on my PC. For my PC, I am using USB connection, but you must have a compatible windows version for your type of modem. This connection needs a USB driver that you received when you bought it.

For the laptop you can use the simple network adapter, Ethernet connection, which doesn't need a driver or a special type of windows. In this way you can have internet on both the devices.

One problem could be the speed, because the USB connection is slower than the other, so your PC will have just 50% of the internet speed, while the laptop with the network adapter will have full speed.

Hello Nicola,

It’s very much easier to create two separate lines by using ADSL modem. At first you need a device like a figure below which is 3 or more ports ADSL modem.

ADSL modem
  • Then you just connect your main connection wire into it. (LAN 1).
  • From this device (LAN 2) with the help of another wire, connect your PC.
  • Then using another wire from this device (LAN 3), connect your Laptop.
  • You just need to copy your physical address of your PC and then paste it to your Laptop.

Then your connection will be established in both computers.

To get the physical address, just follow the instruction below:

Go “Control Panel” >> Click “Network and Sharing center” >> Click “Change Adapter Setting” >> Double Click “Local Area Connection” >> Click “Details”. A new window will appear and here you will find Physical Address.

If you first connect your internet connection to your Laptop then you need to copy physical address from Laptop then paste it tour Computer.

To paste physical Address follow the instruction below:

Go “Control Panel” >> Click “Network and sharing center” >> Click “Change Adapter Setting” >> Double Click “Local Area Connection” >> Click “Properties” >> Click “Configure” >> Click “Advance” >> Click “Network Address” >> Here in the box “Value” You just paste the Address that you copied.

I hope you can make two separate connections by following above step. If you have any other question then just ask me. I will try my best to solve your problem.

Thank You.
