Hello,

I am running little short on my hard disk memory and want to add two drives together in order to further software operations.

I have heard that adding two drives together is possible but I do not know how to do it.

So please someone  kindly suggest me about the issue and help me over come my predicament.

The very first thing you will need to check in order to add another hard drive to your computer system is to check its hardware specifications. All system cases have available slots for additional hard drives however the question is if your motherboard has extra ports and cables available for you to be able to plug in the extra hard drive to your system.

To do this, you will have to do a tear-down or you will need to open the case, but you will have to be very careful so as not to hurt yourself if your casing have sharp edges and of course you’ll have to make sure that your computer is turned off and unplug for safety. If you are not comfortable with that, you may bring your system to a technician to check the available ports and cables for you, however, there is an easier way.

The best thing about today’s technology is that we now have what we call USB ports unlike before. And what’s great about USB ports? You can just actually get yourself an external hard drive that you can plug in to the USB port to use it as an additional storage device without having to go through the hassle of opening up your system’s casing just to be able to add another hard drive to it.

Hi there ,

The problem here is you haven't specified which type of Hard disk you have either SATA or IDE .

For SATA (you see a less wide red cable from hard rive to motherboard then its SATA)

1. Open case

2. Put another hard drive in the tray and screw it accordingly.

3. Take an extra SATA cable and pu it one on the Hard drive and other on the motherboard on a free slot of SATA.

4. Take out an extra SATA power cable (coming from the SMPS ) and then connect it accordingly with the drive.

5. Turn your System on after cross checking everything fine.

For IDE(you see a super wide cable which looks like many wires stuck together from hard drive to motherboard then its SATA)

1. Open case

2. Put another hard drive in the tray and screw it accordingly.

3. Check that there is an IDE expansion on near the IDE connector of the current hard drive and put that on this new hard drive.
Make sure the first hard drive jumper is set to Primary master and the second jumper is set to Primary slave

4. Turn your System on after cross checking every things fine.
