Heatsync Fan not working anymore

I have an AMD FX 4350 CPU and it came with a fan as usual. I installed the fan by plugging it in correctly yet it just cannot start. Now everything is working fine on the computer except the fan. Infact, when I start the computer, it runs and then overheats and shuts down. Does this computers’ fan have a special way of connecting or I am the one getting it wrong? What could be the issue? please help.

First check out if there is any crack on the heatsink. It might have got some cracks while you were setting it. Even this causes your heatsink to heat up.

Or else the thermal paste must have been completely used up, even this causes your heatsink to heat up and shuts down. Try applying it frequently.

You probably connected the CPU fan to the wrong port on the motherboard. In a standard motherboard, there is only one particular connector or port designed for the CPU cooling fan and it is located near the processor. You may find more than one fan connector or port on the motherboard but there is only one connector that’s designed only for the CPU cooling fan.

CPU_FAN port for the CPU cooling fan
CPU_FAN port for the CPU cooling fan

On your motherboard, look for a fan connector labeled “CPU_FAN”. This is where you plug the CPU cooling fan. This should fix the problem. The CPU cooling fan plug or connector may fit other fan ports on the motherboard but the system will not be able to control the speed which will also result to overheating.

Plug the CPU fan to the correct port and it should make the system work. You won’t be able to start the computer or even go to the BIOS if the processor keeps overheating.
