To freeze the pane the first, you need to select the column.

For example: choose the column B2. After highlighting the column select the window option.

Under the Window, option chooses the freeze pane.

It will freeze the column A and row 1.

To Unfreeze a pane select the column first and then follow the same procedure to unfreeze your pane.

Choose the column first and then hit the window option and hit on Unfreeze pane.

Whether you are using Microsoft Office 2003 or Microsoft Office 2007, I don’t think there’s a difference when freezing panes. To freeze a pane in Microsoft Office 2007, select “View” tab then under “Window” section, click “Freeze Panes” to bring down the dropdown list. Select one of the three options on the list to freeze the pane.

Freeze Panes option

If you select the first option, “Freeze Panes,” the rows on the top and the columns on the left of the active cell will be frozen. The black outline on the sheet marks the edges of the frozen panes.

First option Freeze Panes

If you select the second option, “Freeze Top Row,” Office Excel will only freeze the top-most pane or the first row on the sheet regardless of where the active cell is.

Second option Freeze Top Row

If you select the third option, “Freeze First Column,” Office Excel will freeze the left-most pane or the first column on the sheet regardless of where the active cell is.

Third option Freeze First Column

When you freeze panes, you will see a black outline on your worksheet marking the boundaries of the frozen panes.
