Free speech to text software

Hi everyone,

I need a bit of help regarding transcribing audio files into text. I have already done some internet research but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have some audio files that I want to transcribe into text format. Also, I want my PC (MS Word or any text editor) to type whatever I say through my microphone.

I have a Windows Xp SP2 PC and MS office 2007 installed on my pc.

Now I would like to know where I can download a Free  Speech to text software?

I already found by researching that Windows XP has an in built speech recognition system in place. But I also found that this facility does not support MS Word 2007 (for 2002.2003 and other it works but not for 2007 version).

I have heard about some software called Dragon but that's expensive and I want something for free.

Please provide some help. (A few alternatives would be great, since most I havealready heard doesn't work with my PC)

Tania.

Hello,

Windows XP has some problems, if you can use Windows 7, because speech recognition does both record your speech and transcribe it.  Most speech to text programs require an active user and a good computer. You have a microphone so you can set it up on almost all Vistas and Windows 7.  Go to the control panel, then ease of access, follow, and speech recognition, and then you are set.

Thanks.
