Joel is fund of surfing the net.

Someone told him that its not safe to do such thing if you don't have any program that protects your computer from viruses.

He's out of budget and wanted to have a free anti-virus software. Is there something like this?

Below is a list of freeware anti-viruses that is recommended by most PC enthusiasts on a budget:

1.  Avast! Free Antivirus – Uses minimal resources so it will not slow down your PC. User interface is very good. Has a sandbox that will automatically launch when you run an unknown program. Virus guard uses minimal resources. On-demand scan is fast and does not slow down system.

2.  Avira Antivir – Currently holds the best detection rate among all freeware anti-viruses. Virus guard uses minimal resources.  On-demand scan is fast and does not slow down system.

3.  Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) – Microsoft's anti-virus and anti-spyware. User interface is very simple. Slow on-demand scanning is one of its problems.

4.  AVG Antivirus – Detection rate is same as Avast! Antivirus.

Yes there are many anti virus that you can download for free but available for 30 days only.

  • Eset Nod 32
  • Avira Anti Virus
  • Kaspersky
  • AVG
  • Avast
  • Panda
  • Norton
  • McAfee

Just simply search the internet for this particular anti virus software and then look for the free trial link.

If you are using Microsoft Operating System that is genuine.

Then I suggest you download Microsoft Security Essentials. This is what I use to protect my PC.

And it also has the features of the windows defender so it is like two functions in one software.

This is free to download on the Microsoft website.
