We cannot credit the invention of the internet to just one person. It was a team effort of several brilliant computer scientists in the 60's.

Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider, born March 11, 1915 – Died June 26, 1990.

Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider, born March 11, 1915 – Died June 26, 1990.

He was an American computer scientist who worked at Harvard then MIT. He first proposed a global network of computers in 1962, and moved over to (DARPA), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in late 1962 to head the work to develop it. Leonard Kleinrock of MIT then UCLA developed the theory of packet switching, which formed the basis of internet connections.

Lawrence Roberts of MIT, who also later moved to DARPA, helped a lot by connecting two computers using dial-up, which proved that the phone lines were inadequate confirming Kleinrock’s theory. These brilliant minds developed ARPANET first which is the Internet’s predecessor.

Although, World Wide Web, commonly known as ‘www’ was invented by Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee.
