Hello everyone,

I am facing problem on changing the file type  to my own custom icon. I used Icon Packager to customize it. But it is not showing as a new icon. I tried to fix it with Windows 8 Manager Customization Tool but the same issue appears. Then I switched to Safe Mode and found the new icons showing without issues. What is the problem here?

I need a clarification of my problem.

Hello Christopher,

The custom file type icon that you made using icon packager software while on a normal mode didn’t work because windows display all file types with a generic default icon. In order to successfully modify it, you should change some parameter in registry settings. Here’s a step-by-step process to guide you through.

How to Assign a Custom Icon to a File Type

I hope this information will solve your problem.
