I have downloaded the Corel Painter Essentials 4 and find that I get an error stating that the archive is damaged or is an unknown format when I double-click the downloaded exe file and the extraction fails. I thought this error may be related to unpacking of the file on my machine. And to work around this problem, I tried renaming the downloaded exe as a zip and then unpacking it into a new folder. Then I attempted running the setup directly from this new folder. However this does not seem to fix the issue. I tried downloading the installer using two different browsers and I get the same error in both cases when attempting to install. I also tried temporarily disabling my antivirus program while downloading and again this error persists. Could this installer be corrupted? What should I do to resolve this problem? I am counting on your help to fix this issue. Kindly help me. Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas.

Just like the installers I’ve encountered before, the one you have is a self-extracting archive or compressed file done from WinRAR which when double-clicked will extract to a pre-defined folder and automatically opens the setup file to start the installation. This kind of installer is normally a re-packaged type and the original installer is inside the compressed file.
If the problem is related to the extraction meaning the error pops up immediately even before the extraction process starts and no files were unpacked, then it could be related to a corrupted file. But if you were able to successfully unpack the archive, just like what you said, and placed it in a certain folder then there’s no problem with the archive.
The problem now is may be originating from the main setup file itself or the actual file that initiates the installation process. You should also check if the program supports your operating system because most of the time this is the cause why installers don’t start and terminates immediately even right after you start it.
For Corel Painter Essentials 4, it would be a bad idea if you’ll install it on either Windows 7 or Windows 8 because these two are not supported. Corel Painter Essentials 4 only supports Windows XP with latest Service Pack and Windows Vista. For Mac users, it requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.5 Leopard.
