Hi Experts,

I have been unsuccessfully trying to install 3DS Max 2010 for three days now. I can launch the installer but when the installation is almost complete say nearly 98 percent, this error comes up and cannot proceed with the operation further. I have tried several times but always get this error. I tried uninstalling this partial install and tried to reinstall but this did not help either. I tried to ensure that all the 3DS products were removed by manually checking to ensure that the AutoDesk folder under my AppData in user profile and the 3DS Studio in Documents folder is deleted. Further I ensured that there were no remnants in Common Files folder. Again logging in as administrator, I download the installer after disabling my firewall. The download completes without any issues and installation begins as well. But once it approaches completion, the system decides that I do not have sufficient permissions. What could be wrong? I am the only administrator on this windows 7 machine. Can somebody help me fix this please? Regards.

To solve this issue I recommend you to follow these steps:

1. First of all verify that your computer meets the System Requirements for 3ds Max. System Requirements for 3ds Max to details information visit this site.

2. Be ensure that you have the latest updates for Windows.

3. Log in with full Administrator permissions.

4. Turn off “User Account Control” in Windows. How you will do that for details visit this site.

5. Like anti-virus software shut down all other running application.

6. Now go to “My Computer” >> “Manage”>> “Services and Applications”>> “Service”.

Note: Be sure again that all running applications have been shut down as well verify that all 3ds Max & mental ray services are stopped.

Before installing Autodesk 3ds Max 2010, make sure your computer meets the requirements. Autodesk 3ds Max 2010 supports Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or higher and Windows Vista (Business, Premium, or Ultimate edition) both 32-bit and 64-bit. Now, since you are using Windows Vista and although both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista are supported, your operating system has to be on the right edition.

You must be using Business, Premium, or Ultimate edition of Microsoft Windows Vista to install Autodesk 3ds Max 2010. The program will not install on any other edition of the operating system. Also, since Autodesk 3ds Max 2010 is available separately in 32-bit and 64-bit edition, you need to install it on the right version of the platform.

Though 64-bit Microsoft Windows allows installation of 32-bit programs, you need to install the 64-bit version if the program is available in 64-bit version for the program to work properly and to avoid installation problems like the one you are having. If you have 32-bit Windows Vista, you should install the 32-bit edition of Autodesk 3ds Max 2010.

If you have 64-bit Windows Vista, on the other hand, install the 64-bit edition of Autodesk 3ds Max 2010. See if this works.
