Hi Experts,

I failed to convert Microsoft Office 2003 Word document to Microsoft Office 2010 Word document. However, it opened in compatibility mode in Office 2010. I tried to make changes in it but failed. It could not save the document and become irresponsive. While printing the document it looks like markup format. Have you any idea to solve the problem?

Please help me to get a remedy.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try renaming the file?
If not try to rename the file:

MS word 2010 has an extension .docx and MS word 2003 is having .doc
Change the extension of your file name by just renaming the name of your file to filename.docx

If extension is not shown with the filename:

  1. Tools -> Folder Options
  2. Click View tab
  3. Uncheck the box Hide extension for known file types

Hi Harold Rudy,

If the document could not be edited, then you can copy-paste your document into a new file in MS Office 2010.

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how you will do this:

1. Open the file.

2, Click on the document.

3. Select all by pressing ctrl+A.

4. Copy the document by pressing ctrl+C.

5. Create a new file by clicking on the round Office button, then choose New.

6. Paste your copied document by pressing ctrl+V.

7. Save the document by clicking again on the round Office button, then Save As.

The default format type would be (.docx) so no need to change the format.

Hope this helps.
