I am using Facebook messenger on Windows 8.1 which has these chat pop ups and they are getting all the focus such that, if I was typing in Word, the typed letters are appearing on the chat popup, I have tried disabling them but it is not working, How can I disable these pop ups? or how can I lower their focus level?

To block pop-ups on your browser you have to install an Add-On. Every browser is using different Add-Ons. Depending on your browser you'll have to search for a blocking Add-On to Facebook only or a general Add-On block which will block all the pop-ups. Also you can block the pop-ups from the settings on your browser (is not very effective).
Access the Setting to your browser and Select Pop-Up Tab and check Don't Show Pop-Up/ Block Pop-Up. Follow the images below to understand better on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome.
