Hello,

I try to share a file  and I get this permission error: 'net user share' returned error 255: net user share add: failed to add share media.

Error was Operation not permitted. I am a total noob in Ubuntu and I need help to fix this or another way to easily share files.

This is what I take:

Error:

'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: failed to add share media.

Error was Operation not permitted.

Avoid using the name “shared” as your folder’s shared name. Maybe this is the reason why you are getting that error in Ubuntu. Maybe it is conflicting with other shared name in its system. Use other name when sharing a folder in your computer instead of using “shared”.

If you still can not share a folder or any folders in your computer, try checking your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. For a much thorough diagnostics on the system, use a disk utility application like Norton Utilities, PC Tools Performance Toolkit, or Norton SystemWorks.

Any errors in the hard disk’s file system can cause differently problems in applications. It can also make an installation to go wrong that leads to an incomplete software installation.
