I am using Zune software and I was unable to update it. I have tried to uninstall the old version and install the newer software. But the error is still the same. The error code I am getting is 0x80004005.

I have tried to find the solution for it but failed. Tried to re-install it and the installation starts from 15% and then jumped to 91% and then give this error message. I am sure that I have downloaded the proper version from internet. I am using window 7 32-Bit. Need help.

Hello,

Hope the below solution makes you happy.

1)      Go to Control Panel – Windows Firewall.

2)      You’ll have to delete the Zune firewall rules from Windows Firewall.

3)      Once this is done, then disable your windows firewall and anti-virus for time being.

4)      Remove Zune from your PC and re-install the software.

5)      Once it is re-installed then restart your machine and see it you are still having the error.

Once the issue is resolved then you can enable your firewall and anti-virus.

Before trying the above steps, make sure that you have downloaded this from trusted website and if not, then download it from Microsoft Website.

NOTE: Always keep your Microsoft Updates “Enabled” and update it regularly.

Regards,

Keaton Christopher

I’m not sure if this error is common since there seems to be several people affected by this problem. You may encounter this error when starting Zune. When you open Zune, the program will prompt you to update but when you try to update the software you will receive “Installation Failed – Setup must stop because the required package ‘Zune’ failed to install”.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Zune will not fix the problem. To fix error code “0x80004005”, try deleting the Zune firewall rules in the Windows Firewall. Click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Administrative Tools”, then select “Windows Firewall with Advanced Security”. In “Windows Firewall with Advanced Security” window, in “Inbound Rules” and “Outbound Rules” on the left pane, delete all rules related to Zune.

Once all Zune rules have been deleted, uninstall and reinstall Zune. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it. Once installed, start Revo then select Zune among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process.

In case you are prompted to restart the computer, click to restart later. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, close Revo then restart the computer. After booting, install Zune back or install the latest version.
