Dwg to shapefile hatch convert problem. The dwg file contains many layers containing different information regarding constrains. This data include text, lines and hatches (patterns). I tried to convert it to shp simply by right clicking on it and using export to shp conversion in ArcCatalog, it doesn't work, what should I do?

To solve this just check some quick things.

1. A DWG contains multiple feature types such as Points, Lines, Polygons, Annotation and more. Shapefiles can only contain single feature types. So make sure that the feature types for the Shapefile you are trying to export is correct.

2. If you want to bring the Annotation into ArcGIS, you can do this by using the CAD Annotation Import tools in ArcGIS with a Geodatabase. Remember there is nothing such as an Annotation Shapefile per say.

3. You can’t export Standard AutoCAD Hatch. To create the hatch You need the boundaries.

4. Unless you explode them AutoCAD Blocks export as points.
