I have a downloaded a file with an .exe connected to it and it seems to be causing me a lot of trouble these days. I’m not pretty sure though if this is the culprit or if other files are causing this on my computer. The file’s full name is open close cd.exe download which I think came from a pop-up advertisement. My computer kept on hanging and restarting over and over. I have tried deleting this but it deleted my other files with it. Could that be possible? Help!

Hi Asten,
It seems that are a victim of malicious or a malware application. I think you have already downloaded a virus and you have executed it. Your system is already exposed to the said malware or virus so that your computer hangs. A virus has the ability to replicate and rename your files without the knowledge of the user.

Hello Mr. Rathbun.

Have you accepted any pop up advertisement? I think you have downloaded a corrupted file. This may be contains any type of virus. That is why your other files are also facing problem. Do you have any anti-virus software? If you have one, then scan your whole computer with it. If you don't have any, then download an anti-virus. I would suggest you to use AVG or AVAST anti-virus software. Download any of these two and scan your whole computer. If it detects any problem or infected file, remove them with your anti-virus. If your anti-virus can not remove them, you have format your computer. Save your necessary data in any other computer using pen drive. Then format your computer, install a anti-virus and restart it. Get back your saved data and install them in your computer again.

Thank you for your question.
