Yes, the FBI will remove all the servers with the DNSChanger virus from 9th July, a malware that was created by Estonian scammers. The effect of this is that some computers will no longer be able to connect to the internet because the FBI will be shutting down the temporary DNS servers used to allow the malware compromised computers access to the internet. You can scan your computer to check whether it is infected, then use malware removal software and you should be fine.

The DNS hijacking Trojan virus called DNSChanger has been active from years 2007 until 2011. The virus was circulated as a drive-by download disguised as a video codec that encourages users to download and install to properly view the content of a website. For my own experience, I’ve seen a lot of websites where at first visit will immediately prompt you to download something to properly view the page.

With the length of my experience surfing the web, I have never tried even once to download something as suspicious as that on my computer. In the first place, it’s very odd. This drive-by download video codec is very common to pornography sites. Once you install the supposed video codec, it will immediately modify your system’s DNS configuration.

The malware doesn’t delete and empty out your DNS settings but instead replaces it with different DNS servers which will direct your computer to rogue name servers which are run by partners of Rove Digital. DNSChanger can now easily be removed from your computer. If you suspect your machine is infected, please refer to Detect DNSChanger On Your Computer.
