Just when I am in the hype of playing The Sims, I am so annoyed when suddenly after loading the game, my screen went black. It will go back again on the screen, but I am just annoyed. Then, once I am done with my game, the error pops up. I am using a Vista Operating System, 2GB RAM. At first, I tried to uninstall and reinstall the game. However, this does not fix the issue. Also, I tried to put down the screen resolution 800 x 600, but no luck. I am focusing on the game itself as this does not happen to my other games. Is it on my display driver now and not really on The Sims?

If you are playing “The Sims” on your computer and you have Microsoft Windows Vista, first, check that your computer meets the requirements. The classic “The Sims” or “The Sims Deluxe Edition” supports Windows 98, Windows Millennium, and Windows XP. Windows 2000 and Windows NT are not supported.

The Sims
The Sims

It requires 233 MHz or faster Intel Pentium II or equivalent AMD Athlon processor, 64 MB RAM, Microsoft DirectX 7.0-compatible 16-bit high color video card with 2 MB video RAM, sound card, and 1.4 GB free space. Now, since you are using Windows Vista, try running the game in compatibility mode. Right-click “The Sims” and select “Properties”.

In the “Properties” window, go to “Compatibility” tab then check “Run this program in compatibility mode for”. Select “Microsoft Windows XP” or any of the supported operating systems from the dropdown list and click “OK”. Try running the game and see if it works. If this doesn’t work, try updating your video card driver then see if it works.

You can download an updated version of the driver from the video card manufacturer’s website.
