While the Starter edition of Microsoft Windows is usually available only on certain regions, Microsoft Windows 7 Starter edition will be available for the first time worldwide and is designed for entry level computers. Previous Starter editions are limited only to run up to three applications simultaneously but with Windows 7 Starter edition, users can run as many applications as they want all at the same time.

Besides these changes to Starter edition, Windows 7 Starter edition will still include only a subset of features offered in the higher editions of Microsoft Windows 7 like Home Premium, Professional, and others. Here are the features that are not included in Windows 7 Starter edition:

  • Aero Glass – you can only use Windows Basic and other opaque themes. You cannot also use Aero Peek and Taskbar Previews.
  • Personalization features for changing window colors, sound schemes, or desktop backgrounds.
  • The ability to switch user accounts without logging off.
  • Support for multi-monitor.
  • DVD playback.
  • Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV and other media.
  • Remote Media Streaming for streaming your videos, music, and recorded TV from your home computer.
  • Support for domains for business customers.
  • XP Mode to give you the ability to run earlier Windows XP programs on Windows 7.
