Hi there,

I am trying to run a Hard Drive WDC via USB 2.0 on my Dell PC, but it says that the device is unplugged. I plug out and plug in the hard drive, but I have the same problem. I tried to turn it on many times without any result. Does anyone know why the HDD is unplugging by himself ? Is there any way to fix it ?

Thanks !

This problem seems to be easily solved.

As the driver installation window said, the drive’s device is installed correctly and the second driver wasn’t installed perfectly.

My first suggestion will be running this Microsoft Fixit. Check if your problem is solved.

Go to “Control PanelAll Control Panel ItemsTroubleshootingHardware and Sound”. Run “Hardware and Devices”.

Also, go to Start menu >> type “device manager” >> press Enter. From “Device Manager”, expand “Disk drivers”. Then, find out your WDC device driver, right-click on it and select “Uninstall”. Then unplug and re-plug in the device.

The easy solution for this it turn on Windows automatic updates so could it find the drivers for connected hardware online and automatically install it on your system.

I'd recommend you to turn this feature on first and then reboot PC (make sure the device is connected). Below link includes step by step guide to turn on Windows updates and let the system install device drivers for your hardware:
