I'm currently on Windows 7 on my Laptop and I'm having a hard time using…

What actually happens is that all the icons on the desktop disappears after reboot? It seems like the system is in the seep freeze mode, a mode which was used many years back for controlling virus, I guess. How to fix?

The reason for this issue can be a virus attack. So, it is advisable to scan the computer by using a strong anti virus software which is up to date in order to detect any malware attack.
 
Further it can be that the "explorer.exe" has not properly been loaded. As a solution for this issue, download and run this Unhide tool.
