Designjet 500 Error 86.01 Occurring After Reassembling Printer

Recently, due to some problems, I had to change a belt on the Designjet 500 printer. I am continuously receiving this ‘designjet 500 error 86.01’ error message after re-assembling and turning on the printer. When I switch on the printer, it starts to load and gets to initializing sequence, and after initializing sequence, the carriage which is on the right side of the printer makes a jerk, and after that, the error message appears. How can I fix this?

This ‘designjet 500 error 86.01’ is a carriage movement failure error. It must be happening due to some restrictions on the carriage axis. It can also cause due to a bad sensor on the carriage. Let us start with rail. Try to clean and lubricate it. Now turn on the printer and see if the error is still displaying or not. Enter service mode. While turning on the printer, hold the UP ARROW key and Enter key at the same time and turn on the printer. You can leave the keeps after hearing a beeping sound.

Now, enter SERVICE UTILITIES, and click on UNLOCK CARRIAGE. Now turn off your printer, try to open its top cover and slowly move the carriage to the middle of the printer. Now turn on the printer to check whether the error is still present. If the error is still displaying, this is because of a poor carriage sensor.

Unfortunately, you have to replace that carriage. If the carriage is moving slowly but stops at a particular position, try cleaning the encoders strip and check whether it is damaged. If so, replace it.
