Corrupted JPJ Image, No Preview Available

I love nature and sports. I always take a picture of those and collect pictures from my friends.

I have a collection of over 5GB wallpaper of nature and sports.

But I can’t open some of the files in different folders. All the pictures are in JPJ format.

Whenever I try to open the pictures with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer then it says that no preview is available for that picture.Sometime it says ‘drawing failed’. But all those pictures were just fine.

I have also tried to view the image with Adobe Photoshop, but it says the document may be damaged.

Please help me to retrieve my wallpaper collection.

Hi Darren,

You must be pertaining to JPG or JPEG.

"JPEG" is a short for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is the name of the group that created the JPEG format as well as other image formats.

JPEG/Exif and JPEG/JFIF are the compressions which are the widest commonly used image format of digital cameras and in the Internet. There are actually some other format variations of JPEG which are not often identified, and are simply called JPEG.

Here are steps you can try and software you can use to restore the image:

1. Rename – If the format you are pertaining to, is JPEG but somehow it’s showing as JPJ, then one thing you can try is to rename it.

  • Make a copy of the image:
  • Select an image
  • Press Ctrl and drag the image file to an empty space
  • It should produce a copy and will save it as “Copy of [Name of File]”
  • Highlight the Copy file and rename it to anything and add the extension “.Jpeg”

2. Open and Save:

  • Make a copy of the image:
  • Select an image
  • Press Ctrl and drag the image file to an empty space
  • It should produce a copy and will save it as “Copy of [Name of File]”
  • Open the Copy file by simply using MS Paint
  • Save it: File>Save as
  • Change format to JPEG

3. ArtPlus Digital Photo Recovery – This can be downloaded for free from CNET and can recover lost image files, audio files and video files.

4. PC Inspector – The PC Inspector Smart Recovery is able to bring back accidentally deleted or format changed images. It can also recover video files and RAW images taken with an SLR camera.

5. ZAR Image Recovery – Zero Assumption Recovery (ZAR) is actually a commercial product. However, the some of the features like the one for recovering pictures is free and fully functional.

6. Data Recovery Wizard – Available for a free trial. You can scan your drive or folder where the images were located for the lost data.

7. Photo Recovery Wizard – Available also for a free trial, the Photo Recovery Wizard can recover up to 10 photos and will show all the other photos it can recover after getting the full version.

8. Photorecovery2011 – Commercially available software designed to recover images, audio and video files.

9. Image Recall – According to them, it is a bestselling and highly acclaimed software. IT has received PC Magazine’s Editors Choice Award.

Yes your image might have been damaged or even corrupted.

The possible cause of the damaged or the corrupted file maybe due to the presence of the virus in your Micro SD or the device that you are storing your pictures in.

First, scan you storage medium for any virus and if a virus if detected, delete then try to open the file once again.

Also, you may try and use a photo recovery tool such as the JPEG recovery tool or the photo recovery wizard.
